How to hide YouTube recommendations
Short answer: Endwhile, a free Chrome extension, removes the recommended videos beside and below the player, end screens, the pause overlay, autoplay and the Next button, and replaces the YouTube home page with a plain search box.
How to do it
- Add Endwhile from the Chrome Web Store.
- Open YouTube. The home page now asks what you want to watch, and recommendations are gone from video pages.
- Click the Endwhile icon to choose exactly what goes: the home feed, recommendations, Shorts, like counts, comments.
What gets removed
- The home page, Trending and Explore, replaced with a search box
- The sidebar of recommended videos, and the same list under the player on narrow windows
- End screens, in-video suggestion cards and the pause overlay
- Autoplay, and the Next button when you are not in a playlist
- Optionally, like and dislike counts, comments and the subscriptions feed
What YouTube lets you do without an extension
You can switch autoplay off by hand, and pausing watch history empties most of the home page. Recommendations beside every video, end screens and the suggestion cards stay. There is no setting for those.
What keeps working
Search, the video you came for, channels, playlists, subscriptions and history.
Questions
Will YouTube still play the next video automatically?
No. Endwhile switches autoplay off and hides the toggle, and the Next button is hidden unless you are watching a playlist.
Can I keep the subscriptions feed?
Yes. It is its own switch in the Endwhile popup.
Does it slow YouTube down?
No. It decides from the page address and hides elements with CSS. It does not read what is on the page.
